How to read a six-digit PIN code

A PIN is not a random lock. The first digit is a region, the next two zoom toward a sorting district, and the last three point at a post office. Couriers, ecommerce filters, and bank KYC forms all lean on that six-digit string — which is why a wrong PIN delays a parcel more often than a wrong landmark.

What 560001 is telling you

560001 is a Bengaluru GPO PIN. The 5 marks the southern region in India Post’s scheme. Typing it into IndiaKit’s lookup asks the public Postal PIN API, via our server, and returns the post office name, district and state. We do not store the query as an account history. We do rate-limit so a script cannot hammer the upstream.

Many cities have dozens of PINs. Koramangala, Whitefield and Jayanagar are not interchangeable. If a form rejects a PIN, check the post office list rather than padding a nearby code. Delivery partners sometimes accept a neighbouring PIN and then stall at the hub.

What this is not

A PIN lookup is not an address proof, not an Aadhaar enrolment, and not a “current location” tracker. We do not ask for house numbers. For official changes to a PIN or for opening a post office savings account, use India Post’s own channels.
