Pay in lieu of a notice period
Notice Pay Calculator
When an Indian appointment letter says 30 days’ notice, leaving earlier often means paying salary in lieu, or the employer paying you if they waive the time. A common payroll sketch is monthly salary × days / 30. On ₹60,000 and 30 days that is ₹60,000. Whether your contract uses 30, 26 or calendar days is a clause, not this website.
The cash-flow question
Developers in Hyderabad serving 90-day notices and retail staff in Lucknow serving 15 days both ask HR for a buyout figure. IndiaKit shows the 30-day-month sketch so you can see the rupee scale before you negotiate. It is not a legal opinion on whether the clause is enforceable in your state labour forum.
The maths on this page
Notice pay = monthly salary / 30 × notice days. Defaults ₹60,000 and 30 days → ₹60,000. A 15-day buyout at the same salary would be ₹30,000 in this sketch.
Some companies use gross, some use basic, some use CTC/12. Type the base your HR named in the relieving policy. Stock unsold options and joining-bonus clawbacks are extra clauses.
The Standing Orders, Shops and Establishments Act in your state, and the appointment letter together matter. This page cites none of them as a verdict.
A 30-day buyout on ₹60,000 in Hyderabad
Kavya wants to join a new firm in Hyderabad before her 30-day notice ends. Her current monthly salary for notice purposes is ₹60,000. The calculator shows ₹60,000 in lieu. She asks HR whether they use gross or basic, because a basic-only base would be smaller.
What a bank still has to confirm
Indicative 30-day-month arithmetic. Garden leave, non-compete, and withheld relieving letters are not priced. Not legal advice.
Common questions
Is dividing by 26 more accurate?
Some factories use 26-day months for wage calculations. If your HR policy says 26, the result here will be higher than their worksheet. Match their denominator.
Can an employer refuse a buyout?
Often yes if the contract demands serving time. This tool cannot force a relieving date. Speak to HR and, if needed, a labour lawyer.
Does notice pay attract income tax?
It is generally taxable salary. TDS may apply. Confirm with payroll; this page does not compute tax.
