Working backwards from monthly cash

In-hand to CTC Calculator

Negotiations sometimes start from “I need ₹60,000 in-hand.” This tool annualises (in-hand + monthly deductions) × 12. With ₹60,000 cash and ₹4,000 deductions the implied CTC is ₹7,68,000. That is a rehearsal for an offer letter, not a replacement for the CTC-to-in-hand page that starts from the employer’s number.

Why CTC is not in-hand

Candidates in Noida and Pune are told “we can do 12 lakh CTC” when they asked for ₹70,000 in-hand. Reverse-engineering CTC from a cash target makes the gap visible. Deductions here are a lump you estimate (PF + professional tax + typical TDS), not a full tax engine.

What we subtract

CTC ≈ (monthly in-hand + monthly deductions) × 12. Defaults: ₹60,000 + ₹4,000 → ₹7,68,000 a year. If you ignore TDS in the ₹4,000, the true CTC needed will be higher.

Employer PF is part of CTC but not part of in-hand. A complete reverse model would add employer PF on top of employee deductions. This simple page does not add a second PF automatically.

Use the tax and salary tools to refine. Then ask HR to show the annexure.

₹60,000 in-hand target in Noida

Ritu tells a Noida recruiter she needs ₹60,000 in-hand. She estimates ₹4,000 of monthly deductions. IndiaKit implies ₹7.68 lakh CTC. The recruiter’s “₹7 lakh CTC” offer is then visibly short, before anyone argues about cab and meal cards.

Payroll is still the source of truth

Deductions are a single guess. Employer PF, gratuity and variable pay can all sit in CTC without raising in-hand. Not a Form 16.

Common questions

Should TDS sit inside the ₹4,000?

If you want the CTC to cover tax, yes, include a TDS estimate. Otherwise this reverse CTC will be too small and April will hurt.

How is this different from the CTC to in-hand tool?

That page starts from annual CTC and subtracts PF and a ₹200 professional tax. This page starts from cash you want and multiplies up. Use both directions on the same negotiation.

Convert to a monthly equivalent first. The field is monthly in-hand.
