Completed years from a date of birth
Age Calculator
Age in completed years, months and leftover days is the figure Indian schools, passport forms and exam bulletins actually want. A child born on 1 January 2000 is not “about 26” for a cut-off that says 25 years as on 1 August. This calculator counts from the date of birth you enter to today, using calendar months rather than a 365.25 guess.
A number you need in a queue
JEE, NEET, NDA, driving licences and many state-board admissions use “age as on” a stated date. Families in Patna and Bhubaneswar still lose a cycle by counting birthdays in their head. IndiaKit’s age page is the everyday clock; the academic-age tool adds exam-specific windows on top.
How the lookup or formula runs
The engine subtracts birth year, month and day from today’s date, borrowing a month or a year when the day has not yet arrived. The default 1 January 2000 is only a sample; replace it with the date on the birth certificate.
Leap-day birthdays (29 February) are handled by ordinary calendar borrow rules in this code. For a legal dispute, a Gazette notification or a court-recorded date of birth is what counts, not a website.
Passport and UIDAI processes use the date on supporting documents. This page never asks for Aadhaar, and you should not type identity numbers anywhere on IndiaKit.
Born 1 January 2000, checking completed age
The sample date 1 January 2000 is sitting in the form so you can see the layout. On 18 September 2026 that sample person is 26 years and 8 months with 17 leftover days in the current month-count. Swap in a real birth date from a municipal certificate before you use it for an exam bulletin.
What we do not store
“Today” is the server or browser date when you run it. Time zones near midnight IST can theoretically shift “today”. For UPSC or NTA, the cut-off date in that year’s notification overrides this page.
Common questions
Is age calculated as on today or as on 1 January?
As on the moment you press calculate. Exam bodies publish a different “as on” date every year. Use the academic-age tool for JEE / NEET / NDA sketches, and the PDF bulletin for the law.
Do you store the date of birth I type?
The field is used to compute age in that request. Do not paste identity numbers. Government age proofs remain the municipal or school certificate.
How should twins with different birth times enter the date?
This tool is date-only. Minutes of birth do not change completed years here. Hospital records still matter for medical files; they do not change this calculator’s output.
