Calendar span between two dates
Date Difference Calculator
Project plans, visa cover letters and rental agreements in India constantly need the number of days between two calendar dates. From 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026 this page counts 364 days — because it measures the span between those midnights, not “a year has 365 days” as a slogan. Weeks and a 30.44-day month approximation sit beside the exact day count.
A number you need in a queue
A contractor in Bhubaneswar billing “90 days from kickoff” and a student counting a passport validity window should not rely on mental month-math. IndiaKit subtracts the two date values and reports days, weeks, and approximate months so you can see the same span three ways.
How the lookup or formula runs
Days = |end − start| in milliseconds ÷ 86,400,000. Defaults 2026-01-01 to 2026-12-31 → 364 days, 52 weeks, about 12 months using 30.44 days per month (365.25/12).
The end date is not added as an extra inclusive day unless it equals a full 24-hour step. If a court or a bank says “inclusive of both days,” add 1 to the result yourself.
Time of day is not in the form; dates are treated as calendar dates. IST versus UTC is irrelevant unless you are crossing midnight with timestamps, which this tool does not take.
Planning 2026 as a 364-day span
A Bhubaneswar consultancy sets a project from 1 January 2026 to 31 December 2026. The difference tool shows 364 days, not 365, because 31 December minus 1 January is 364 midnights. They add 1 when the contract language says both dates are inclusive.
What we do not store
No holidays, no IST business-hour cuts. Leap days inside the range are included automatically by the calendar. For working days excluding Sundays, use the working-days tool.
Common questions
Why is 1 Jan to 31 Dec 364 days, not 365?
Because the subtraction counts the gap between the two dates, not the count of dates in the year. 1 Jan to 1 Jan next year is 365 days in a non-leap year (366 if leap).
Does this skip Sundays?
No. Every calendar day counts. Use Working Days if you need weekdays only.
Can I use it for age?
You can, but the age calculator reports years and months the way Indian forms expect. Date difference is better for contracts and visas.
