CGPA to Percentage Converter

Many Indian school and college forms still want a percentage when the marksheet prints CGPA. A widely used CBSE-era conversion is percentage ≈ CGPA × 9.5. An 8.2 CGPA becomes about 77.9% on that identity. Other universities publish their own tables; this page is the 9.5 convention only.

The conversion students actually type

Students moving from a CBSE school in Jaipur to a state-university application, or from an autonomous college in Coimbatore to a PSU form, get stuck when one document speaks CGPA and the other speaks percent. IndiaKit isolates the 9.5 multiplier so it is not silently mixed with raw-mark percentages on the marks tool.

The formula used here

Percentage = CGPA × 9.5. Default 8.2 → 77.9%. The inverse lives on the percentage-to-CGPA page (divide by 9.5).

Some universities use 10-point scales with class rules (First Class with Distinction above 7.5, and so on) that are not percentages. Do not file those class names as 75%.

Engineering colleges under Anna University, VTU or Mumbai University have historically issued circulars with different multipliers. If your controller of examinations published a table, that table wins.

8.2 CGPA on a Jaipur CBSE marksheet

Ananya’s class 12 CGPA is 8.2. Using × 9.5 she reports 77.9% on a scholarship form that refuses grade points. She attaches the CBSE conversion note from her school so a clerk in Lucknow does not invent a different multiplier.

Boards publish their own notes

Only the CGPA × 9.5 convention. Not a board result. Not valid where your university forbids conversion or mandates a printed percentage on the transcript.

Common questions

Why 9.5 and not 10?

CBSE documented 9.5 as an average conversion from its earlier grading studies. Multiplying by 10 would overstate versus that convention. Always prefer the percentage printed on the marksheet if it exists.

My college uses a 4-point GPA. Can I type 3.6 here?

No. 3.6 × 9.5 would be nonsense. Convert with your college’s published mapping, or use the school GPA tool only for points ÷ credits on the same scale.

Will JEE counselling accept this conversion?

Counselling bodies state their own rule each year. Follow the JoSAA or state-CET brochure, not a website identity.
