Percentage to CGPA Converter

When a marksheet prints 82% and a college form insists on CGPA, the inverse of the CBSE-style rule is CGPA ≈ percentage / 9.5. Eighty-two percent becomes about 8.6 on that convention. If your university prints both, copy the printed CGPA and ignore this page.

The formula used here

CGPA = percentage / 9.5. Default 82 → about 8.6. Rounding policies (two decimals versus one) differ by office; this display uses one decimal.

Percentages above 95 convert above 10 on a naive divide; that is a sign you should not use 9.5 for that transcript. Cap or use the official table.

ICSE, state boards and IB diplomas are not CBSE. Do not force 9.5 on an IB 42/45.

82% on a Nashik HSC marksheet

Siddharth scored 82% in HSC. A form in Pune asks for CGPA. Using ÷ 9.5 he enters about 8.6 and notes “converted using CBSE 9.5 convention” in the remarks, because Maharashtra HSC never issued that CGPA itself.

Boards publish their own notes

Inverse of CGPA × 9.5 only. Not an official Maharashtra or CBSE certificate. If conversion is forbidden, leave the field blank and attach the marksheet.

96 / 9.5 is above 10. That means the 9.5 rule is the wrong tool for that score. Use the board’s own mapping or the printed grade.

Is 8.6 CGPA equal to 82% everywhere?

Only under this convention. VTU, Anna University and others have used different circulars. Read yours.

Should I round 8.63 to 8.6 or 8.63?

Follow the form. This page shows one decimal. Do not round up to 9 to look better; that is a false statement.
