Job portals and government application forms in India still ask for experience in months. Two years and three months is 27 months. That conversion is trivial until a form rejects “2.3 years” as 2 years 3 months versus 2.3 decimal years (which would be about 27.6 months). This page is the integer version HR means.

Why CTC is not in-hand

What we subtract

Total months = years × 12 + extra months. Defaults 2 and 3 → 27. There is no rounding of leftover days; this form has no days field.

If a notification says “experience as on 1 January 2026,” compute the end date yourself, then convert. This page does not know today.

Should overlapping jobs count twice?

Usually no; total experience is a union of calendar time. This tool adds whatever you type. Deduplicate periods on paper first.

How do I include 45 days?

This form has no days field. Round with the notification’s rule (often ignore below 15 days, count 15–30 as a month) or convert 45 days to 1 extra month by hand.

Is 27 months equal to 2.25 years?

27/12 = 2.25 years, yes. Forms that want years in decimals want 2.25, not 2.3. Prefer months when the field allows it.
