Indicative Motor Vehicles Act fine sketch

Traffic Challan Fine Calculator

Traffic challans are issued under the Motor Vehicles Act and state amendments. This page maps a few common offences to indicative rupee amounts used in public discussion after the 2019 amendments: overspeeding ₹2,000, signal ₹1,000, helmet/seatbelt ₹1,000, phone ₹5,000, without documents ₹5,000. The default overspeed therefore shows ₹2,000. Repeat-offence multipliers and state compounds differ. Confirm on echallan.parivahan.gov.in.

A sketch, then the official portal

Riders in Jaipur and cab drivers in Navi Mumbai still pay a “setu” amount that may not match the Act. IndiaKit shows a public-table sketch so you know the order of magnitude, then sends you to the e-challan portal. We never ask for vehicle number.

Where the figure comes from

Dropdown: speed ₹2,000, signal ₹1,000, helmet ₹1,000, phone ₹5,000, doc ₹5,000. Default offence is speed.

Some states compound at lower amounts; some courts levy more. Camera challans and virtual courts have their own workflows on Parivahan.

Paying a bribe is a crime. Use the official portal. This site cannot accept a challan payment.

Overspeed sketch of ₹2,000 in Jaipur

A Jaipur rider selects overspeeding and sees ₹2,000 indicative. He then searches echallan.parivahan.gov.in for any real notice instead of paying a middleman at a junction.

We never ask for identity numbers

Indicative teaching amounts, not a court order. State amendments and repeat offences omitted. Official: echallan.parivahan.gov.in and parivahan.gov.in. No vehicle registration field on IndiaKit.

Common questions

Is ₹5,000 for a phone-at-the-wheel fixed everywhere?

It is the amount in this sketch, reflecting widely reported MV Act penalty levels. Your state’s compounding table and whether it is a first offence can change what you actually pay. Check the e-challan site.

What if I was carrying a digital driving licence?

DigiLocker / mParivahan documents have been accepted in many enforcement contexts. That is a production-of-documents issue, not this fee table. Read MoRTH advisories.

Can I contest a camera challan here?

No. Use the virtual court or the process named on the Parivahan challan receipt.
