Indicative auto and taxi maths for three cities

Taxi and Auto Fare Estimator

Auto-rickshaw and taxi meters are city regulators’ business. This page uses a tiny teaching table for Bengaluru, Delhi and Mumbai: a base plus a per-km rate after 1.5 km. A 12 km Bengaluru auto is about ₹188 in the sketch (₹30 + 10.5×₹15). Night charges, monsoon, and app surge are extra. Check the local RTO or aggregator screen.

Fares and time, not tickets

A visitor landing in Bengaluru and a local in Delhi both get into “meter vs app vs session” arguments. IndiaKit prints an indicative fare so you know whether ₹400 for 12 km is already a story. It is not the legally notified 2026 tariff for any city.

The sketch behind the figure

Fare = base + max(0, km − 1.5) × per_km. Table: Bengaluru auto 30/15, taxi 50/18; Delhi auto 30/12, taxi 45/16; Mumbai auto 23/17, taxi 59/19. Default: Bengaluru auto, 12 km → ≈ ₹188.

Waiting charges, AC, and Namma Yatri / Uber / Ola promotions are omitted. Mumbai’s auto may use a different night chart.

Official city taxi/auto notifications sit on state transport sites. This table is indicative.

12 km auto in Bengaluru, about ₹188

A visitor takes a 12 km auto from a Bengaluru hotel toward a tech park. IndiaKit’s indicative meter is ₹188. If the app shows ₹260 in rain surge, she can see the gap and decide, instead of arguing from a 2014 memory of ₹12/km.

Three cities, two vehicle types, no surge, no night. Indicative. Not a regulator tariff PDF. Confirm locally.

Common questions

Is ₹15/km the legal Bengaluru auto rate today?

It is the teaching rate in this table. Bengaluru’s notified rates change. Look at the fare card in the auto or the city transport notification.

Why subtract 1.5 km?

Many Indian meter charts include a minimum that covers the first kilometre-and-a-bit. This 1.5 is a modelling choice, not every city’s exact drop.

Can I add Chennai or Kolkata?

Not in this version. Use the city’s official chart. Do not assume Bengaluru numbers there.
